Infinitus is a starship idea I have long had — a flower-shaped home in space. At the center is the Pistil Core, the stem of the ship, with eight GEODE petals around it, each a crystal-dome habitat.

In Bloom Mode the petals open flat, the engines fire, and Infinitus flies. In Bud Mode the engines go quiet, the petals fold straight up, and the whole ship spins slowly so the habitats can coast.

Two long green leaf supports grow from low on the core to each side of every dome, sliding along the rim as the ship changes shape, while rigid stems hold the inner edge of each petal. We like it because it feels like a living thing as much as a machine — open to travel, closed to coast — and we wanted to attempt some artwork of how those two modes would look as it moves from one to the other.
