Outside the massive diamond-glass viewports, the starfield wheeled by in a slow, majestic rhythm. Around and around the stars went, a silent cosmic carousel.
"Grandfather," the child whispered, pressing her nose against the cool transparency. "Why do the stars spin?"
Elder Jaron smiled, a look of infinite patience on a face that had seen ten thousand such spins, yet bore no trace of age or decay. "The stars do not spin, little Elara. We do."
He gently turned her so she looked "down" through the intricate lattice of the dome's framework. Far below, sprawled on the dome's landscape floor, was their village. She could see the green expanse of the agricultural zones, the shimmering surface of the hydration lake, and the clusters of homes nestled among the trees. People moved about down there, walking firmly rooted to the ground, living their days in the comfort of a full Earth-gravity pull.
"You were born during the Quiet Time, the Long Coast," Jaron explained, his voice soft in the vast, echoing space of the Hub. "This is the Centrifugal Mode. Right now, our four great domes—each a thousand feet across, just like this one—are swung up on their massive hinges. We are like a flower closed for the night, with our glass tops facing inward toward the Central Hub. That spin is what gives your feet weight on the floor below, pushing you outward against the ground."
"Do not forget, little traveler: The ship is just the pot. The G.A.R.D.E.N. holds us, but it is the S.O.I.L. that keeps us grounded. Without the spin, we would float away; without the ship, we would freeze. We need both." (Gravity Acceleration Rotation Dome Earth Nursery - Simulated Orbital & Inertial Loading)
He gestured to the holographic schematics floating in the center of the observation deck. They showed the current configuration: the 1,000-foot central spine of the ship, with the four massive domes facing each other, rotating at exactly 3.14 turns every minute.

"When we leave a star, Elara, we must push hard. In those days, the domes do not spin. The great hinges rotate us ninety degrees outward. We unfold out, opening up as a flower opens as the ship opens as it heads towards a new planet to explore."
Elara tried to visualize the massive movement.
"When we accelerate," Jaron continued, "the floor of the dome rotates out so that they are perpendicular to the engines. The glass roof above us stops facing the Hub and turns to face Forward, directly into the deep black of space."
"So we can see where we are going?" Elara asked.
"Exactly. The engines at the back of the ship push the floor up against our feet, creating the gravity we feel. And as we fly, you can look up through the glass and watch the stars we are chasing. You watch them slowly move us as we move through the heavens." If we are in acceleration mode we see the recede into the floor and when we are in deceleration mode we see the stars recede towards the sky.
“How long will it take?" Elara asks.
As long as it takes. We can not rush, we use this time to repair the ship and build new vehicles to land on the new planet and its atmosphere. As the journey continues and the burn fuel is low, we slow the engines, the domes hinge back up to face the center, and we spin up the ship so we still have gravity. This is where we are now. A forty-year silence between the stars that is different with each trip according to its distance. It was a fine opportunity for your parents to have you so they could raise and teach you new things.
He placed a hand on her shoulder, looking out at the galaxy—the canvas of their eternal journey.
"We travel to learn, Elara. When we arrive at the new world, some will choose to stay and plant a garden there. Others, like your mother, Father and I, may choose to move on to the next star. We do this to ever-learn about the great universe Jehovah God and His Son Jesus created as Father and Son. We travel so that we might enjoy it as their creation, and fill it with life. There is no end to the expansion of humanity, and no end to the wonders we will find."
"When we leave a star, Elara, we must push hard," Jaron said. "But do not fear that your world will turn sideways. That is the magic of the Great Hinge."
He tapped the floor with his boot—the solid, grassy earth of the village common.
"In the old stories of other ships, the crew had to strap themselves into chairs because 'down' would suddenly become 'sideways.' But here? The floor is always the floor."
He swept his hand toward the massive, curved glass roof above them. Currently, across the vast open space of the central hub, Elara could see the other three domes spinning in sync with them.
"Right now, we are in Coast Mode. We are spun out to the side. But when the Acceleration Mode begins, the Great Hinge will rotate this entire dome ninety degrees out. You will stand right here, on this same grass. You will feel the gravity fade for a moment, the horizon will tilt, and the dome will spread itself out."
"And what will I see then?" Elara asked, looking up at the sky.
"That is the most beautiful sight of all," Jaron whispered. "When the domes unfold out towards the acceleration of the ship, the glass roof will no longer face the Hub. It will face forward."
He smiled, his eyes reflecting the starfield above.
"It can face forward to accelerate towards a new planet, or—once we are past the coast mode—the ship flips and turns its engines to the planet to decelerate, so we can orbit a new world. That is the most exciting of times, Elara. We plan so hard and love so much for that moment."
Jaron knelt down so he was eye-level with her.
"When we arrive, some of us will decide to stay on that planet to plant a garden. And others will decide to move on to another planet, ever-learning about the great universe Jehovah God and his son Jesus created as Father and Son, so that we could enjoy it as their creation. That is why we travel, little one. To see every corner of the gift we were given."
The scent of jasmine faded as Jaron and Elara moved deeper into the lower levels of the dome, replaced by the sharp, clean tang of ozone and heated alloy. They stood at the balcony of the Grand Workshop, a cavernous space that spanned the entire width of the dome’s base.
Here, the silence of the stars was replaced by the symphony of creation. Sparks cascaded like waterfalls from the ceiling gantries. Drones hummed as they carried beams of silver-titanium through the air.
"This," Jaron said, his voice filled with pride, "is where we prepare for the ground."
Elara gripped the railing, looking down at the massive shape taking form in the center of the bay. It did not look like the sleek shuttles she had seen in the history archives. It was wide and squat, with broad, flat surfaces and sturdy, splayed legs.
"Why is it shaped like a beetle, Grandfather?"
"Because the world we are approaching is not like Earth, and it is not like the last world we visited," Jaron answered. "It has a sky thick with wind and dust. A tall ship would topple over. A thin ship would be crushed. So, we are building this lander specifically for that wind. When we reach the next star, we will build another, perhaps a glider, or a boat, or whatever that new world asks of us."
He pointed to a group of figures working near the landing struts. They were dressed in protective suits, passing tools and scanners back and forth with fluid precision.
"Do you see that man on the left? The one guiding the laser cutter?"
Elara squinted. "That is Captain Hannon. He commands the Night Watch on the bridge."
"He was the Captain," Jaron corrected gently. "This rotation, he asked to work in the fabrication team. He wanted to feel the metal in his hands. And the woman handing him the power coils? That is Lyra. She has been a music teacher for the last forty years. Now, she is learning to be a structural engineer."
They took the lift down to the floor level, walking amidst the sparks and the hum of industry. There was no shouting, no urgency. The work moved with the calm rhythm of a river. These were people with forever to work, so they worked with perfection.
A figure in a heavy welding suit lifted her visor as they approached. Her face was flushed with the heat of the torch, and her eyes sparkled with joy.
"Mother!" Elara cried out, running to hug her legs.
Her mother laughed, sweeping Elara up into a hug that smelled of iron and plasma. "Did you see the weld seam on the strut, little one? It is seamless. Stronger than the metal itself."
"Grandfather said you used to be a biologist," Elara said, touching the rough material of the suit. "Why are you building a spaceship?"
"Because I have studied the cells of life for a century," her mother said, smiling at Jaron. "Now, I want to build a shell that protects that life. Next century? Maybe I will learn to paint, or study the geology of the moons we pass. We are given eternity, Elara. Why would we only do one thing?"
She set Elara down and gestured to the vast room around them—to the welders, the coders, the artists painting the nose art on the new lander, and the elders sweeping the metal shavings from the floor with dignity.
"The universe Jehovah God gave us is infinite in its variety," her mother said. "To understand it, we must be infinite in our curiosity. We take turns. We teach each other. The Captain learns from the welder, and the welder learns from the poet. That is how we stay strong. That is how Infinitus survives the stars."
Jaron placed his hand on Elara’s shoulder, looking down at her with eyes that held the wisdom of ages and the excitement of a child.
"You have seen the stars from the Hub," Jaron said. "You have seen the turning of the Great Hinge. You have seen the garden where we grow our food, and now you see the forge where we build our wings."

But today, the work in the Grand Workshop had stopped. The drones were docked. The welding torches were cold.
"It smells like cinnamon and starlight," Elara said, sniffing the steam rising from the roasted root vegetables. They had grown them in their own garden plot, specifically for this day and she had helped her Mother to prepare it for everyone's enjoyment.
"Careful, Elara," Jaron said, steadying the large ceramic bowl in her hands. "It is hot."
They walked from their home toward the Village Common, joining a river of other families. Every person carried something. There were platters of bread baked from wheat strains preserved for a thousand years. There were bowls of fruit that had been genetically adapted to grow in low light. There were jugs of nectar from the hydroponic vineyards.
It was the Feast of the Sowing. The "Bring a Dish" tradition was as old as the ship itself.
"Why does everyone bring so much food?" Elara asked, watching a neighbor balance a towering tray of pastries. "The fabricators could make a feast in an hour."
"Because a machine cannot put love into the dough," Jaron answered, guiding her to the long tables arranged in concentric circles under the open sky of the dome. "When we say goodbye, we do not just give our friends coordinates and survival gear. We feed them. We nourish them one last time, so they remember the taste of home when they are building their new world."
The tables were groaning under the weight of the offering. Thousands of dishes, no two alike—a testament to the infinite creativity of the crew.
Elara placed her bowl near the center. Across the table, she saw Captain Hannon. He was no longer wearing his welding suit or his bridge uniform. He wore a simple tunic of rough-spun linen, the attire of a colonist. Beside him stood Lyra and a hundred others who had chosen to leave. As the meal wound down, the sun of the new system began to set through the upper glass, casting long, golden shadows across the grass. The moment had come.
Elder Jaron stood up. He held a small, glowing object in his hand—a Crystalline Data Core. It shimmered with an inner light, containing the sum of everything the Infinitus knew: the history of Earth, the blueprints of the engines, the genetic codes of the seeds, and the journals of the ancestors. Of course this one crystal could not carry all the knowledge but this crystal symbolized all the knowledge and history of the ship and mankind through to their departure.
The crowd fell silent. Captain Hannon stepped forward.
"The ship has carried you," Jaron said, his voice ringing clear in the silence. "Now, you must carry the fire."
He pressed the crystal into Hannon's hand.
"Build well," Jaron whispered. "Build with humility. And tell your children where you came from."
Hannon closed his fingers around the seed of knowledge. "We will build a garden," he promised. "And we will watch the sky for your return."
The farewells that followed were slow and deliberate. There was no rushing. Elara hugged Lyra, smelling the scent of the ship’s jasmine on her clothes one last time.
"What will you do down there?" Elara asked.
"I will teach the new children how to sing," Lyra smiled. "And I will tell them about the little girl who helped build the lander that brought us home."
Later that night, Elara stood at the viewport of the Observation Deck with Jaron. They watched as the beetle-shaped landers detached from the docking bays. "Come, Elara. The feast is over. It is time to help your mother wash the dishes." Elara, satisfied with the day's feast, smiled as her grandfather walked her home.
The Infinitus did not leave immediately. A ship of such magnitude, housing a civilization and an ecosystem, required energy to move the heavens.
After the farewells of the Feast were over, the great ship engaged its maneuvering thrusters. It broke orbit from the violet world and drifted silently toward the system’s outer rim, where a small, frozen moon circled in the dark.
Elara stood in the Observation Deck with Jaron. The mood was different now—industrious, focused.
"Why that one?" Elara asked, pointing to the jagged, white sphere filling the viewport.
"Because it is dead," Jaron answered respectfully. "We do not take water from the living world below. We leave their rivers for the colonists. We come here, to the ice, where no life grows, to fill our cup."
Below them, the massive bay doors of the Central Core opened. A swarm of heavy drones—bulky, blocky machines built for crushing and melting—descended toward the moon’s surface. They looked like silver ants marching against the snow.
For weeks, the Infinitus hung suspended above the ice. The drones worked in a ceaseless rhythm. They bored into the crust, extracting megatons of ice. Inside the ship’s refineries, fusion heaters melted the ice into pure water. Electrolyzers split the water into oxygen for the air and hydrogen for the nuclear engines.
"It is a trade," Jaron explained to Elara as they watched the storage gauges climb. "The universe gives us the fuel to move. We give the universe life in return. We take the dead ice, and we turn it into the fire that carries the seeds of humanity."
By the end of the month, the vibrations of the heavy machinery ceased. The drones returned to their bays, their bellies empty, the ship’s tanks full. The Infinitus was heavy again, pregnant with the potential for the next voyage.
"The tanks are full," the Captain announced over the ship-wide link. "The harvest is complete. Prepare for the un-folding."
The day of departure was the only time the Infinitus ever felt truly quiet. The hydroponic pumps were paused. The workshops were secured. Every tool, every cup, every loose item in the village was stowed away.
Elara stood with her family on the lawn of the Village Common. The air felt charged with anticipation.
"Hold on to the rail, Elara," her father said gently.
Over the intercom, the countdown began. It was not a countdown to an explosion, but to a transformation. "Spin down in three... two... one.".
Then came the rumble of the Great Hinge. Through the glass roof, Elara watched the universe shift. The other three domes, which had been facing them across the Hub, began to move. They rotated outward, swinging away from the center.

A laugh bubbled up in her chest—the joy of the weight change that every child loved. For a few minutes, the physics of the entire village felt new. Water from the lake shimmered differently as it adjusted to the linear force.
"Here it comes," Jaron whispered, holding a stanchion with one hand and Elara’s hand with the other. "Watch the sky.".
The floor they stood on—the soil of the village—began to tilt relative to the stars. The dome was rotating ninety degrees outward.
Suddenly, the Central Hub disappeared from view. The glass roof no longer looked across at the rest of the ship. The black throat of deep space swung into view, filled with the cold light of distant stars. It looked forward to its next destination.
It started as a vibration in the soles of Elara’s boots. Then, it became a push. The floor rose up to meet her feet. The floating water in the lake crashed gently back into its bed. The weight returned—not from the spin, but from the sheer power of the engines pushing the dome forward through the void.
Elara looked up. "The stars!" she exclaimed.
Because the ship was accelerating forward, and the floor was perpendicular to that motion, the stars in the glass roof appeared to be raining down. They emerged from the zenith of the dome and streamed steadily downward, vanishing into the horizon of the floor.
"We are moving," Jaron said, his eyes fixed on the rain of light. "The floor is pushing us toward the future.".
The Infinitus was no longer a wheel. It was a spear of flame, driving into the dark, carrying its precious cargo to the next sun.
Twenty years is a heartbeat to Jehovah’s gift of immortality, but it is a lifetime of learning for a child.
The Infinitus was coasting again. The engines had long since silenced, the domes had folded back in to face the Hub, and the ship was spinning in its comfortable Centrifugal Mode.
Elara was no longer the little girl pressing her nose against the glass. She stood tall, wearing the blue tunic of the Systems Apprentice. Her hands, once small and soft, were now capable and sure, stained slightly with the nutrient gel of the bio-filters.
She stood in the Grand Workshop, but she was no longer watching. She was leading.
"The seal on the secondary airlock needs to tolerate a higher pressure variance," Elara said, pointing to the schematic on the holotable. "If the next planet has a dense atmosphere like the scans suggest, the standard seal could fail when we go into orbit."
Around the table stood a group of five crew members. One was new to the rotation. Another was Elder Jaron.
Jaron listened intently, his head bowed in respect to the young woman leading the technical briefing. He did not interrupt. He did not correct. He simply learned.
"Agreed," the new crewman said. "But we are low on synthetic rubber."
"Then we will harvest the latex from the rubber trees in Dome Four," Elara replied without hesitation. "I spoke to the agricultural lead this morning. The trees are ready for tapping. We can process the raw material here by Tuesday."
She looked around the circle. "Are there any objections?"

Jaron looked out at the stars, which were stationary now that they were spinning with the ship.
"Look at that star, Elara," he pointed to a faint dot of yellow light in the distance. "That is where we are going. There is a world there that has never felt the tread of a human foot. It has never heard a song. It has never seen a flower. We are bringing it life."
He looked back at his granddaughter, who was now a master of her own craft.
"How could I be tired? I am watching you grow. I am watching us build. And soon, we will have a new garden to plant. The work is not a burden, Elara. It is the joy."
Elara took a deep breath, feeling the steady 1g pull of the gravitational mode they were in— the gravitational firmness of the ship that kept them comfortably on the ground.. She looked at the yellow star, and then back at the workshop where her team was waiting.
"You are right," she said, stepping into the lift. "Come on, Grandfather. We have rubber to harvest."
Here is the finale of The Travelers of Infinity. It brings Elara's journey full circle—from the child asking why the stars spin, to the woman standing on solid ground, stopping the spin to plant a new world.
The deceleration was a heavy hand pressing Elara into her pilot’s chair, but it was a familiar weight. The Infinitus had performed the Great Flip months ago. The engines were now facing the destination, roaring with a braking fire that turned the night sky behind them into a blinding sheet of white plasma.
Through the forward viewports of the cockpit, Elara watched the destination world grow. It was no longer a yellow dot. It was a massive, swirling marble of ochre dust and storm-grey clouds.
"Atmospheric density is holding at 4.2 bars," Elara said, her voice calm over the comms loop. "Wind shear in the upper stratosphere is one hundred knots."
"The Beetle was built for worse," Jaron’s voice came over the headset. He was not in the co-pilot seat. He was up in the Hub, watching her telemetry from the Command Deck.
"Copy that, Control," Elara replied. She glanced at the empty seat beside her. It was filled with cargo containers—seeds, tools, and the condensed history of their voyage.
The main engines of the Infinitus cut off. The silence that followed was sudden and profound. The ship had achieved orbital mode.
"You are clear for separation, Elara," Jaron said.
Elara engaged the release clamps. With a dull thud, the heavy lander she had helped design twenty years ago detached from the mothership. The Infinitus hung above her, a silver city against the black, its domes folded back in the linear configuration, resting after its long burn.
"Guidance is locked," she whispered.
The Beetle hit the atmosphere like a stone skipping on water. The hull began to glow cherry-red. Inside, the ride was violent. The winds of this new world battered the craft, trying to flip it, but the squat, wide stance of the lander held firm. It surfed the turbulence just as Elara had predicted in the workshop so many years ago.
"Altitude three thousand feet," she called out, though only Jaron was listening. "Deploying chute drogue... firing retro-thrusters."
Dust plumes exploded outward as the heavy landing legs touched down on a rocky plateau. The engines whined down and died.
For a long moment, there was only the sound of the cooling metal ticking in the alien cold.
Elara unbuckled her harness. She stood up, her legs adjusting to the gravity of a real planet—slightly heavier than the ship’s 1g, but manageable as the ship had increased gravity rotation and during deceleration to help prepare the ones who had decided to stay. She walked to the airlock, cycled the pressure, and lowered the ramp.
The air outside was thick and smelled of ozone and dry earth. The sky was a hazy, golden yellow. It was desolate. It was empty. It was perfect.
Elara stepped off the ramp, her boot crunching into the virgin soil. She was the first human to stand here.
She reached into her pouch and pulled out a small, biodegradable pod. Inside rested a single seed from the apple tree in the Village Common of Dome Three—a tree that had grown from a seed brought from Earth thousands of years ago.
She knelt and dug a small hole in the ochre dust. She placed the seed inside and covered it, patting the earth down with a gloved hand.
"Ground Control," she spoke into her mic. "The seed is sown."
"We read you, Elara," Jaron’s voice came back, thick with emotion. "The garden has begun."
Elara looked up. High above, piercing the dusty haze, was a single bright star moving steadily across the zenith. The Infinitus.
"Are you sure you won't come down, Grandfather?" she asked, though she knew the answer. "The gravity is good here."
"My work is up here, little traveler," Jaron replied. "There are other stars beyond this one. Other children to teach. Other domes to build. But I will watch your garden grow from the sky."
Elara smiled, tears tracking through the dust on her cheeks. She watched the star until it faded into the twilight. The ship would remain for a hundred years, helping them build, before moving on. But for her, the traveling was done.
She looked down at the small mound of earth.
"Grow well," she whispered to the seed. "We have a lot of work to do."
She turned back to the Beetle, where the rest of the landing party was beginning to disembark, carrying the tools to build a new Eden. The expansion of mankind had taken one more step into the infinite.
